Commission considers telephone competition in light of FCC Triennial Review remand order

The UTC held a workshop on Feb. 1, 2006, on telecommunications industry competition. The workshop agenda provided an open forum for interested parties to present their issues, ideas, and perspectives on competition in the telecommunications industry, and challenges facing telecommunications carriers after the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Triennial Review Remand Order (TRRO). (Docket No. 053025, for more information, see the "Documents" link below).

To address competitive local exchange company (CLEC) concerns over the proper designation of "non-impaired wire centers" as set out in the FCC's TRRO order, the commission issued an order on Feb. 21 requesting information from Qwest and Verizon. These companies filed written responses on Feb. 28. Workshop participants are reviewing this confidential information to validate a list of wire centers that meet the non-impairment standard.

For more information about this investigation, please contact lead staff Ms. Jing Roth at (360) 664-1291.
