Do you have an intense pride in your work? Do you like a challenge? The Utilities and Transportation Commission (UTC) seeks a senior technical expert in energy engineering in the state of Washington. AGENCY OVERVIEW The UTC regulates the rates, services, and practices of privately-owned utility and transportation companies, including telecommunications, electric, natural gas, water, and solid waste collection companies, private commercial ferries, buses, and household goods movers. The agency also enforces pipeline and railroad safety standards. The mission of the UTC is to protect consumers by ensuring fairly priced, available, reliable, and safe utility and transportation services. The UTC helps consumers make informed choices about their use of utility and transportation services; provides regulatory oversight in the absence of effectively competitive markets; ensures consumer protection is maintained during and after the transition to more competitive markets; and ensures public safety is achieved by minimizing hazards resulting from company practices. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is the agency senior technical expert in the areas of energy engineering, integrated resource planning evaluation, renewable resources, electric company system design, operations and reliability, supply and demand-side resource acquisition, electricity infrastructure planning and design, and energy conservation potential evaluation. This position participates in policy development and rulemaking on energy company issues, Exercises significant authority requiring the consistent use of independent professional engineering judgment and responsibility regarding evaluation of high-level or highly complex energy company technical issues. Within the Regulatory Services Division, lead on technical evaluation of energy company filings and the most complex technical or regulatory analysis. This position represents the agency and the state of Washington at national conferences, meetings with technical associations and federal and state agencies, and before legislators.
