Maps for Washington Telecommunications Companies

The UTC uses several different kinds of maps to track and regulate telephone service in Washington, and we're always working on improving our mapping information.
  • Exchange Maps show the service areas where phone companies provide service. If you live in one of these areas there is at least one phone company that has to serve you.
  • Competition Maps help the UTC understand where competition among phone companies is strongest.

Competition maps
Telecommunications companies file Form 477 annually with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) identifying the zip code areas where they provide particular services. Commission staff used the January 2004 information to create maps showing the concentration of companies in zip code areas around the state. These maps are only as accurate as the base data from which they were created. Currently, there are two maps available, showing Broadband service and Local telephone service.
